Safari Experiences

What happens once you leave camp is at the heart of a Delta safari. Botswana is defined by space - vast, lightly populated landscapes where wildlife still moves freely across unfenced terrain. Its national parks and game reserves are world-renowned for precisely this reason: high concentrations of elephant and predator populations, strong conservation governance, low visitor density, and a long-standing commitment to high-value, low-impact tourism.

The Okavango Delta itself is one of the world’s great natural systems - a UNESCO World Heritage Site where seasonal floodwaters transform the landscape each year.

From dry mopane woodland to lush floodplains and winding channels, the environment shifts dramatically with the seasons, yet game viewing remains consistently strong. The region is also recognised as one of Africa’s premier birding destinations, with hundreds of species recorded across varied habitats.

Across our camps, activities span both land and water. Game drives along the Khwai River and through Moremi offer opportunities to track predators, including wild dog, while Mababe’s open terrain allows for exploratory drives and walking safaris. Mokoro excursions bring guests close to hippo and elephant while revealing the smaller intricacies of Delta life, and time on the waterways — including explorations aboard a double-decker pontoon boat - offers a broader perspective of this remarkable ecosystem.Together, these experiences provide depth, variety, and true immersion in one of the world’s most extraordinary wilderness areas.

Game Drives

Early mornings and winding roads as you explore Botswana's incredible landscape

Game drives are the daily rhythm of a Botswana safari: heading out in open Land Cruisers with an expert guide, reading tracks, wind and bird alarms, and letting the day unfold at wildlife's pace.

In places like Moremi and Chobe - where driving is kept to established tracks - the emphasis naturally shifts to good timing, fieldcraft, and an understanding of how animal movement changes with the water and seasons.

We do our best to avoid overcrowded sightings (both for the animals and for the quality of the experience), prioritising patient tracking and “found” moments over a convoy culture. From the Khwai riverfront to the wider Moremi landscape, and up toward the Chobe–Mababe corridor, the goal is the same: quieter roads, better context, and sightings that feel earned. Finished, as they should be, with sundowners at a guide’s favourite spot.

Mokoro

A must-do when on a Delta safari

Mokoro excursions are one of the Okavango Delta’s most defining experiences: a quiet journey by dugout canoe through reed-lined channels, guided by skilled local polers and shaped entirely by the water. In a landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its extraordinary seasonal flood system, the mokoro offers a rare sense of immersion - close to the surface, attentive to birdsong, lilies, and the smaller details that are often missed by vehicle.

At MmaTsebe, mokoro trips are offered year-round, and while encounters with elephant and other wildlife can be genuinely heart-pumping, safety is taken seriously at every step. Excursions are conducted only in areas that have been carefully tested and used repeatedly, ensuring guests can experience the Delta’s waterways with both confidence and wonder.

Sitatunga's Edge
Explore Xakanaxa's Waterways by Boat

A highly recommened full-day out which includes a boating excursion through the Okavango Delta’s winding channels, exclusive to guests of MmaTsebe Tented Camp.

Travelling by game vehicle into Moremi before taking to the water aboard a double-decker boat, the experience offers a rare perspective of the Delta - from crystal-clear channels and rich birdlife to sweeping views of wildlife along the floodplains.

The excursion is named for the elusive sitatunga antelope, found here in one of its highest concentrations in the Delta. With drinks and a picnic lunch onboard, the day ends with an afternoon game drive back to camp.

Guests can opt for a helicopter transfer to Xakanaxa for birds-eye views over the delta enroute and a slower start to this full on adventure.
